About the Editor

William McDonald has been the obituaries editor for the New York Times since 2006. He joined the Times in 1988 and has held positions at the paper’s Metro, National and Culture desk. He was part of the team that won the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2000 for the series, "How Race Is Lived in America".
