W50, the remnant of a supernova, has been nicknamed the Manatee Nebula for its resemblance to the Southern mammal. 





W50 is the 20,000 year old remnant of a supernova.  The above image was based on readings from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory's Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array, with 27 independent antennas, in New Mexico.
